Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the differences between Bionic Single Silk Top, Swiss Lace Base, Mono Base and Silk Base?

In our topper collection, there are four different base types for you to choose from, including Bionic Single Silk Top, Swiss Lace Base, Mono Base and Silk Base. Base material is one of the important factors that need to be taken into consideration while choosing a topper. In order to choose the most appropriate one, you need to identify the characteristics of each base and the differences between them.

    1. Bionic single silk top. Bionic single silk top is made with a brand-new technology. Compared with traditional single silk top, it is more realistic looking with no short hair and no knots and is more durable. It’s a must-have choice if you desire a more natural-looking and durable hair topper.

    2. Swiss Lace base. Swiss Lace base is soft, undetectable and breathable, so it’s great option for those who expect a natural look and soft feeling. The major strength of Swiss Lace base is that it’s breathable even in hot weather.

    3. Mono. Mono base can hold the shape perfectly and the hair knots are less visible because of its tight weave. Mono base is more durable than Swiss Lace base. For people who care about the durability of your hair topper, we also highly recommend Mono base toppers.

    4. Silk base toppers. Silk base is soft, light, easy to install, and mimics your own scalp. The hair knots are almost completely invisible between the layers because silk base is made from one piece of fabric and one piece of lace fabric, and easy parting of hair can be achieved. Its limitation is that it is not as breathable as lace and mono.

Features of the four base types are summarized below:

Durability:  Bionic Base > Silk Base > Mono Base > Swiss Lace

Scalp Imitation Degree:  Silk Base > Bionic Base > Mono Base > Swiss Lace

Cost Performance: Bionic Base > Mono Base > Swiss Lace > Silk Base

Recommendation Level: Bionic Base > Mono Base > Silk Base > Lace Base

  • How to choose a topper based on your hair loss area?

Buying a topper, first you should consider your budget. When you know what budget you’ll be working with, you’ll easily be able to determine whether or not you can go with a stock topper or a custom topper. Granted, at, both our stock and custom toppers are made to look great, but if you have a little more to spend, we definitely recommend a custom unit as it gives you the most flexibility when choosing styles.

It is also important to identify the stage of hair loss and the area of coverage to find the correct topper. You should figure out whether your hair loss is in the beginning, mid/progressive or advance stage. Next, determine the area of hair loss that needs coverage. The most important is that the area you’re clipping to can support the weight of hair and the base of the topper to avoid causing hair loss to your biological hair. Once you have established the area that needs coverage, measure from front to back then side to side, write down the measurements, make sure you keep your measurements to track your hair loss in the future. Since hair loss can be progressive. It’s important that you record your measurements and check the areas you’re clipping to. Ensure you’re wearing the correct base size to not cause any damage or loss to your biological hair. Once you have your stage, area and measurements, to look Lily Hair topper base pictures to determine which topper base size will give you the best coverage. Your area of hair loss may change or shift, so it’s important to retake your measurements every six months and record those measurements every time.

  • Can I color, tone, or bleach my toppers?

You may color, tone, or bleach your toppers, because they are 100% human hair. But we do not recommend bleaching your Lily Hair toppers as they have already been dyed at our manufacture, and forcing bleach on hair that has already been dyed can be difficult.

If you truly want to bleach your toppers, please consider our virgin hair with natural color and not color-treated before. If you would like to dye your hair, please opt for a lighter one to dye darker, rather than a darker one to bleach lighter.

And please be reminded that never try to dye the topper yourself at home. Get yourself a professional hair colorist, ideally, someone who has had previous experience working with toppers.

  • How long does Lily Hair topper last?

Our toppers can last from 1 year to 2 years, it all depends on the way how you take care of them and how often you use them. The way they are cared for would largely decide the life-span of your toppers.

Your toppers are different from your own growing hair—they have no roots and unable to constantly get oil moisture from the scalp, so there’s no need for you to wash them very often—wash them everyday is absolutely a big no-no!

Wash your topper every 2–3 times a week is advisable or wash them when they look dirty, lifeless, have product build up or smell. Be sure to deep condition your topper after each wash.

  • How often should you wash your toppers?

This largely depends on how often you wear them. You can probably use your best judgement in how often to wash them. Try not wash your toppers often, because unlike your natural hair, these toppers will not collect the natural oil from your scalp.

If you are still unsure how often you should wash your toppers, then please wash your toppers 2–3 times a week or wash them when they look dirty, lifeless, have product build up or smell. Wash your toppers with the 100% sulfate-free shampoo that’s specially designed for toppers. This is the most effective and mildest way to make your toppers stay moisture.

We don’t recommend blow drying your hair if you can avoid it. However, if you are looking to wear the toppers immediately after and would like to dry them quickly, make sure to use heat-protection spray to extend the lifespan of your toppers whenever you use a thermal styling tool.

  • How to wear the hair toppers?

    1. Open all the clips on the underside of the topper.

    2. Lightly tease your natural hair in the areas where the topper clips will be attached to get a more secure hold.

    3. Place the front edge of the topper approximately 1-2 inches from the front of your hairline, positioning it over the area of hair loss, and secure the front clips.

    4. Place light pressure over the top of the hairpiece and run your fingers over the length of the base to secure the back clips.

    5. Style and blend hair as desired.

I cannot believe how good the quality is on these, especially with how inexpensive they are. They luckily matched my hair color perfectly, and were super easy to style. Takes 2 seconds to put in, they could not be simpler. Love them!! If, heaven forbid, anything happens to these I'm absolutely buying them again. Definitely recommend! I hope the seller eventually adds more color options because now all my friends want them too.
